POP: MILEY CYRUS: LEAVING "HANNAH" BEHIND
NEW YORK (AP) -- Hannah Montana is still alive and well. But Miley Cyrus is sounding like she is ready to step out of the shadows of the kid-friendly sound she helped create as the face of the Disney franchise artist. Cyrus is to release an album next week. And the title "Breakout" seems to fit. Gone is the blonde wig and, to some extent, the focus on her audience of teens and tweens. Cyrus tells The Associated Press she's trying to make her music "a little more fun and edgy." She says while she isn't ready to forget Hanna completely just yet, she wants to see her music grow up, just as her fans are.
POP: SHERYL CROW/FLEETWOOD MAC: ENDING THE "RUMOURS"
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Sheryl Crow says she's a big fan of Fleetwood Mac. But she says the talk that she is going to join the group is just that: talk. Crow was quoted on an America Online music site as saying she and the band had plans to hook up in the future. And Lindsey Buckingham was quoted after that as saying the group had been toying with the idea of adding another female singer to the mix to pair up with Stevie Nicks. Crow says she and Nicks get along well. And she says she hopes she will be able to work with the group in the future. But she says nothing like that is currently in the works. ALTERNATIVE: SMASHING PUMPKINS: MEMBERS SUE LABEL OVER FEES
UNDATED (AP) -- The Smashing Pumpkins broke up nearly a decade ago. But a couple of members of the defunct band are alive and kicking, legally. TMZ.com reports two members of the group are suing their former label, Virgin Records America. The suit claims the label did the two bandmates out of fees for ringtones and the like. James Yoshinobu Iha and D'Arcy Wretzky-Brown claim Virgin struck a deal with Billy Corgan for digital forms of their music, such as ringtones and downloads, but didn't consult the other two members. The suit says the digital deal went down in 2005, five years after band members went their separate ways. The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages.
POP/AC: ACE YOUNG LOOKING FOR LOVE
NEW YORK (AP) -- Former "American Idol" contestant Ace Young says his first single, "Addicted," is about his experience with relationships. He says when you have a relationship that's working, it's an amazing thing that seems so easy. But when it goes wrong, you don't know what's going on. So, he gets addicted to getting that feeling back. Young is single right now but admits he'd love to have a special someone to help him live his dream. He says the past two years have been incredible, and he's been able to share that with his family and friends, but to share it with someone else "would be the best." His self-titled debut album is in stores now.
