This was a hot race back in 2006. Deborah Pryce narrowly won but she's stepping down. Now Republicans have a choice to make next Tuesday. They'll decide which candidate will head to the general election and face the Democrats in November.

Robert Wagner said, "We need to send professionals to Washington not politicians."

Republican businessman Robert Wagner has never held an elected office. He thinks that's a good thing because he brings fresh ideas to the table. Ideas like supporting Ohio's current industries.

Wagner said, "We either sit there and count on putting all these people our of work in the coal industry, hoping they can find some type of job in green industries. I won't buy it. I am for keeping the jobs we have here and expanding and protecting them."

His Republican competition, state senator Steve Stivers, disagrees.

Stivers said, "We have to prepare Ohioans for the jobs of the future."

Stivers tells me he would invest in education, to prepare Ohio workers for jobs in alternative energy industries.

Stivers said, "If we have a work force here that's ready for the jobs of the future, it's easier to create and retain the jobs of the future right here in Ohio."

Whoever wins the Republican primary will face Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy in November. She's running unopposed in the primary. This will be her second shot at the seat. She lost by a little more than a thousand votes in 2006.

Mary Jo Kilroy said, "We need to take things in a new direction."

Franklin County commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy has no primary competition next Tuesday. So she's pushing the issues. She says we need to close tax loopholes that send jobs overseas and find more energy sources - to boost Ohio's economy.

Kilroy said, "We need energy diversity. We need to develop sources of alternative fuels. Ohio's a great place to do with and with that kind of investment and that kind of research and development, we can bring more jobs back."

Wagner and Stivers say they are both confident heading in to Tuesday's primary.
