Austrian judge extends Fritzl's custody in captive daughter case
May 09, 2008 12:54 EDT

VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- Austrian investigators say they want to be "absolutely sure" that they have all of the evidence in the case of a man alleged to have imprisoned his daughter in a dungeon for more than two decades and fathered seven children with her.

They are examining the entire property and its contents. Sniffer dogs searched the yard yesterday, but did not turn up anything.

Today a judge ruled that Josef Fritzl should remain in custody at least another month. His case will be re-evaluated in June.

Fritzl's alleged double life was revealed when his daughter Elisabeth's oldest child was hospitalized with a severe infection.

Doctors were unable to find the 19-year-old's medical records and appealed for her mother to come forward. Fritzl accompanied Elisabeth to the hospital and was detained after she divulged what had happened to her.
